G20 Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS)

Strengthening the visibility of South African agricultural research on a global platform.

The G20 Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) brings together leading agricultural researchers, policymakers and scientific institutions to address global challenges affecting food systems, agricultural productivity, climate resilience and sustainable development.

As part of the communication team supporting the Agricultural Research Council's contribution to South Africa's G20 programme, I developed communication material that ensured research activities, stakeholder engagements and institutional contributions were communicated consistently across multiple platforms.

My work focused on translating technical information into accessible communication products that supported institutional visibility before, during and after the programme. I assisted in managing the exhibition section with the team, designed and edited infographics, and ran the social media campaign across the ARC's online platforms.

The Agroecology Programme promotes farming approaches that strengthen biodiversity, improve soil health and support resilient agricultural systems.

Communication formed an important part of the programme by ensuring that research findings and practical agricultural knowledge were shared in ways that farmers could understand and apply within their own production systems.

The programme created opportunities for researchers, agricultural practitioners and farming communities to exchange knowledge through demonstrations, stakeholder engagements and Farmer's Days.

Project Objectives

The communication approach focused on:

  • ·Increasing awareness of agroecological farming practices.
  • ·Improving access to research findings.
  • ·Encouraging knowledge exchange between researchers and farmers.

  • ·Producing digital communication resources
  • ·Preparing promotional content
  • ·Supporting Farmer's Days
  • ·Coordinating communication before and during stakeholder events
  • ·Documenting programme activities
  • ·Producing photography and communication content
  • ·Translating selected communication material into Afrikaans and isiXhosa to improve accessibility for farming communities

Communication products were designed to present scientific information in practical language while maintaining technical accuracy.
